Stools To Die For

I'm experimenting with some real wood sheets that I purchased from the craft store. The wood comes in birch or cherry, has a variety of thickness options and is manufactured by a company called Creative Imaginations. As seen above, I think the sheets make an interesting wall of wood paneling for miniature scenes. I've also made some wall art and a wavy divider screen with them. I think they would make some nice lampshades too but I haven't gotten around to it.

Okay, so what are we looking at here...Um, I originally started out trying to make a masculine space. Then I went in the direction of library/game room and what you see above is really none of those things, but that's what was going on in my head while pushing tiny furniture about. I mean, who doesn't want to sit on a wood couch and read for hours? Cozy-licious!

I did finally use one of my coveted Peter Tucker items. It's the leaning bookcase. Expect to see this gem often. The oversize dice that I'm using here as stools were a find at TJ Maxx (TK Maxx for my hommies in the UK). I like to rummage through the aisles of off-price retail chains to find those "miniature items that aren't intended to be miniature items". I've been doing this repurposing for so long (egad, I just realized it's been over a decade of this behavior. Send help soon...) so I'm actually on auto pilot no matter where I go. The funny thing about this habit is how people often watch me examine random items. In fact, during the trip when I found the dice, another woman was keeping pace with me in the aisle. After several repetitions of me setting something down that she would immediately pick up to inspect, I turned to look at her with an amused face. She sheepishly laughed and said "I'm sorry. You just make me think you're finding some good stuff." Sigh. Gotta love the crazies...

The Goods: Couch is Pottery Barn; dice stools are a random find; coffee table is ReMent; leaning bookcase is Peter Tucker; credenza is the box for the dice; pillows are Mini Modernistas; Dwell and Living Etc. magazines are X10NY; all other accessories are Kate Aspen; Wright Guide Miniatures; Origins; Bozart Toys; Playmobil; Silver Acorn; Selecta; and typical craft store finds. The figures are Revoltech and Schleich.

  1. Love the title, of course! I was in the Paper Source yesterday and also saw those wood grain papers!!! Too funny. Looks great, and the large dice are inspiring as stools. All the earthy tones are just right, too. Modern treehouse feel. ;)

  4. Even though it evolved into a game room, it feels like its a rather masculine game room, I think!

Also, I LOL'd from your story. And from reading your blog (and other blogs) about repurposing 1:1 items to 1:12, I'm at the point where I'm doing it unconsciously now too!

  6. Ha, I've also used a dice as a stool, but mine was bright green, not nearly as good-looking as your wooden ones. And I know the feeling, I've been looking for things that can be used as miniatures for more than three decades (!) and many shop owners has given me a strange look when I balance small beads on the counter to see if they can be used as vases :-)
The Peter Tucker leaning bookcase is also to die for, it's gorgeous!

Yep, me and my corny post titles, man. Ha! I'd love to see what someone else might do with those wood grain papers. I just can't get away from the earth tones---even my home is like that. Boring, ey? Chuckles!

  13. I love the domino art, really ties the room together. The cardboard robot is adorable, that would be an awesome halloween costume.

The Peter Tucker bookcase truly is to die for. Love it. Love the room. Happy Turkey Day!
