Private Practice

This is the office of the Silver Acorn "mother" figure. She's a psychologist in my "aren't you too old to play with dolls" imaginary world. Surprisingly, I've never seen a psychologist's office in real life. Perhaps this is the root of my problem. Anyway, my attempt here is to make the place seem comfortable, clean, gender-neutral and safe. However, that's all relative on the pass/fail range. Hey, do you think the patient is trying to understand why they have a compulsion to wear 80's leggings and an oversized sweater?? Oh, wait...that look is back in style.

The goods: Desk chair is Bozart Toys.
Acrylic desk is an ebay find. The mid-century cabinet is an ebay find. The cocoa Barcelona chair is Reac Japan. The leather chaise/bench is PRD. The side table is Re-Ment. The art is Rex Ray. All accessories are Battat, Irwin, Contemporary Concepts, Re-Ment and Plan Toys. The dolls are Silver Acorn and Kith & Kin.

  2. Ha, ha, great idea!
I didn't play with dolls as a child, so obviously I have much of catching up to do, or perhaps I should pay your Silver Acorn psychologist a visit?
I love this set up! The furniture is very nice, especially the mid-century cabinet, what a great find! I didn't know they had the Barcelona chair in cocoa as well, I have just seen the black version. And the floor is absolutely beautiful!

  3. Thanks Oese!
I actually never saw the Kleenex in the movies, but I imagined that any mental therapist would have some on hand. How funny is that??!! Ha

  4. Hey Pubdoll,
Sadly, I have always played with dolls. Actually, I grew up in a neighborhood where we would bring out trunks of Barbies and mini fashion dolls and play in the backyard with all the kids in the neighborhood --including the boys. Granted, we'd end up alternating between dolls in the yard, kickball and dodgeball in the street (yelling "car"). You don't see kids playing like that anymore...
Yes, the brown barcelona chair is from Reac's Limited Edition set. BTW, I'm still trying to hustle up an idea using your Lego suggestions and techniques.

  7. Ahh--perhaps I'm blending in some of the psychiatrist's domain here. Bound to be error here. ha!

  8. One of my Barbies is a psychologist who presides over group therapy sessions that quickly deteriorate into chaos. Your room is much more civilized. About the only thing they have in common is a box of Kleenex!

  9. Oh my god! First time I have stumbled across your amazing site. I'm so glad someone else has the fascination/love for modern miniatures that I do. Incidentally, have you been to ELF miniatures http://www.elfminiatures.co.uk/p/category/0810078820-KITCHENS/ ? I'm sure you're aware of it, but just in case you aren't. I'm in love with their stuff, although it's definitely on the expensive side...Anyway, really enjoying your blog!

  11. Hello Anonymous,
Yeah, it is totally subdued, ey? ha ha. Do you have a blog with your Barbies?

Yes, there are a slew of us miniature modern enthusiasts--some of whom are linked under the resources heading. I, too, love ELF miniatures! I am glad you are enjoying the blog. Thank you for such nice compliments.

  13. Hi Goosefairy,
Thank you! I always think the rooms look "so-so". Very encouraging!

  15. Hee hee Propagatrix!
I should get Mary (Silver Acorn) to make me a set of the Frasier folks. That would be interesting.

  16. Brilliant! And it looks very plausible to me!

I was wondering if I could put this, and maybe some other things in the future, on http://fluffybricks.blogspot.com ? Linked back to this blog (or wherever else you want) of course, each time.

  18. haha. I'm a psychologist resident who LOVES mini modern furniture. So this posting is a wonderful meeting of two worlds for me :)

I love everything about it. Just a minor detail however -- in an actual analyst's office, the person is usually lying on the couch facing away from the therapist. This allows for easier free associating :)
