The DWR Miniature Modernism Exhibit...and After

The DWR event in San Francisco went quite well. The atmosphere was pleasant and allowed for more meaningful conversation and connection. It was a lot of work to plan, pack-up, transport and set-up miniature structures but definitely worth it. I can't say that I was 100 percent satisfied with the scenes I had on display, but others appeared to enjoy it so that's good. Anyway, the folks at the Jackson St. Studio mentioned doing another event next year...I might subject myself to that kind of torture again if the opportunity does present itself. Smiles.

My favorite part of the whole night was watching people appreciate modernism in a smaller scale. Even those who are not a member of the hardcore miniature modern community were captivated by the works on display. Some attendees may actually become a member very soon. My apologies to all whom we have converted. Chuckles. It was wonderful to people watch and meet new folks. It was particularly amusing to meet people who know me through this blog. After each personal introduction to blog readers, I would be asked to clarify, "You're Mini Modern?". It was quite funny to me and I felt the need to apologize to them for shattering whatever image they have had for the last three plus years. I find it quite interesting (and lucky) that I have liked everyone whom I've met in person from these established Internet relationships that are centered around this hobby.

I got to finally meet Doris Nathanson of Mini Modernistas who is so nice, real and down-to-Earth fabulous. I liked seeing her 1:18 furniture pieces on display--which still had the same quality as her 1:12. Unbelievable. Gotta love her skills. Yeah, I was weak and bought some more of her items, but in my defense, they were right there for the taking. And it was good to see Paris Renfroe of PRD Miniatures again. He brought his Sky Lofts, a Gallery, some M112 Pods and all kinds of other wares that make collectors swoon. My wallet was seduced again...I'll need another storage cabinet. I also had the pleasure of meeting Tim Boyle of Brinca Dada. He's laid-back cool and very easy to talk to. He trusted me enough to share his concepts on possible Brinca Dada dollhouses #3 and #4. I enjoyed getting a glimpse of the sketchbook that he carries around. I will only say that what I saw looked fabulous, innovative and very exciting. You're gonna want to buy them.

I definitely appreciate the support that was showed for the event and this passion of a hobby. Mini Dork, Left Coast Mini, Mini2B, Jocelyn, Yuko, Iris, Lisa, Andrea and everyone = You are great. We must have drinks and conversation again!
