Fits Of Giggles

If I get some time to myself this weekend, I'll have some fresh pics of the decorated Nomad Home to show next week. Every time I look at the new dollhouse structure, I crack up with glee (Okay, okay, I'll cop to maniacal laughter) because it is crafted so well and is simply stunning. The art in this quick scene above captures just how I'm feeling these days. Stay tuned...

The Goods: Art is by Mabel Lucie Attwell; Hans Wegner chair is Reac Japan; wall panel with circle cut-out is MiniModernistas; shelving unit is Lundby; sofa is AG Minis; firepit and table are MGAE and craft store finds; all accessories are Bozart Toys, Lundby, Voila Toys, Mattel, Plan Toys, X10NY, AG Minis, MunnyWorld and DCWV.

Break A Leg

This room was inspired by the Martin Puryear artwork. Last year, I put together an assortment of miniature Sketch Chairs and broke one of them during the process. It was the leg of the chair that I broke beyond repair. I was forced to shorten all of the legs to sad stumps. However, I am glad that I didn't discard this broken chair because it looks pretty good here next to the image of the Puryear sculpture. I took quick pictures of the scene above at two different times of the day and didn't expect any great images. Somehow I lucked out. In the end, I couldn't decide which lighting I preferred so many of them are posted here.

The Goods: The sofa is an ebay find; the chair is Sketch Chair, the coffee tables are brinca dada and PRD; the side table is PRD; the shelving unit is Logan Hendrickson of One Forty Three; the anglepoise lamp is Just Mustard; the art is Martin Puryear; all accessories are Mini Dork, Re-Ment, Peter Tucker, Bozart Toys, The Hairy Potter, and Diamond Select.

The Cows Come Home

I haven't had as much time as I would like for my small hobby. I find myself saying this way too often... I've entertained the idea of doing a scene a day but have been way too chicken to attempt it. Bock. Bock. Plus, at this rate, I doubt I could keep up with the challenge. Every once in awhile, I get an opportunity to see what everyone else is doing in the modern miniatures community. I do truly love the information network that has been created by fellow hobbyists. The Internet is cool! There are so many collectors and artisans who I admire--like Pepper who made the awesome credenza seen above. Beautiful lines, walnut wood and yes, the doors do open to reveal shelving inside. Simply coveted.

The above scene started with a snack--as most of my life's activities do. Okay, it wasn't really the snack but the chip clip. What can I say? Something about it MOOved me.

The Goods: The credenza is Pepper; the daybed sofa is an ebay find; the coffee table is Ikea; the Eames La Chaise is Reac Japan; the leaning bookshelf is Peter Tucker; the cow art is a chip clip by Kikkerland Design; all accessories are Plan Toys, Bozart Toys, Wright Guide Miniatures, Sir Thomas Thumb, X10NY, Lemax, MiniModernistas, Pepper, Tim Holtz and common finds from hobby and craft stores.

Taking Time To Play Modern

It was a very busy holiday weekend but I still made time to put together a mini scene. This one started with the miniature replicas of the Play Modern playhouses. You can configure them in a wide variety of ways and also paint or stain the unfinished wood. The flexibility of these pieces is quite addictive. I spent an hour plus building these in every conceivable way while watching TV (BBC's Luther and old episodes of The Office on Netflix...Idris Elba is in everything, right? ha!)

I decided to add the animal Sketch Chairs which I think complement the playhouse due to the same slot together build feature. I had planned to do two scenes but only cranked out the one above before my "me time" ran out. Sorry peeps. It's how it is in Parentville (Damn--Zynga is totally going to steal that!)

So--- Hey! What do you think of the grass flooring? It came out better than I expected. It also photographs really well---see how the rhino stool is just a grazin'? ha ha! And, yes, I know that it's quite dangerous to allow wee ones to climb up on the roof of this structure to play without proper railing. In my defense, every railing I put up there just looked terrible and interrupted the open space. I think it was Paris Renfroe who said that "you don't have to be practical in the miniature world" and that's why I feel such freedom when I work--ahem, play modern in this medium.

The Goods: Playhouses are Play Modern; bed is Plan Toys, giraffe chair and rhino stool are Sketch Chair; toy tub is from Oil of Olay packaging (yup, I'm 80 but I look 24!); all accessories are Rovio, brinca dada, Hape, Steven Beebe, Re-Ment, DCWV, Mattel, Bodo Hennig, Mini Dork, Lundby and K&Company; the art is Woolbuddy

Eat Your Heart Out

Happy Valentine's Day!
This room started with the card that my Mr. gave to me last year for Valentine's. The heart is made of satin ribbon laced through the cardstock. I added the stag's head and tried to make the room seem cozy modern cabin-esque. Shrug. The table here is one of the Dylan Furniture paper/foam 1:16 pieces by brinca dada. It blends well in 1:12. I actually like how you can see all the joints, folds and connections in this table.

And of course, I have to add some humor...
It's amazing how the simple act of adding a bloody axe to this scene makes it instantly get all Snow White. My Mr. and I chuckled over this realization. Hmm...Maybe the huntsman went through with cutting out Snow White's heart for the evil queen...Maybe Snow White turned the tables on them both--killing the evil queen and the huntsman and keeping the apple and the axe as souvenirs...

Mirror mirror on the wall, who is the craziest mini modern blogger of them all?...Forget I asked.

The Goods: Card art is Papyrus; dining table is brinca dada; Organic Armchairs are Reac; stools are Selecta; fireplace is Playmobil; all accessories are Re-Ment, Mattel, Tim Holtz, DCWV, AG Minis and random ebay and jewelry store finds.

The Plaid Floor Looks A Little Dicey

The plaid floor was selected with my old method of closing my eyes and flipping through random papers. I groaned when I opened my eyes but went forward with using it anyway. This method never turns out well for me so I have no idea why I keep using it. The walnut and brass credenza was the saving grace. Once I placed that piece, I softened a bit towards the pattern on the floor. Then I remembered that I had a set of dice that complemented the credenza...

The Goods: Chair is Peter Tucker; Sofa is MiniModernistas; Walnut and brass credenza is OneFortyThree/Logan Hendrickson; Ladder is Wright Guide Miniatures; Wood and brass dice tables are an off-price store find; Art above credenza is an untitled Rex Ray; Art above sofa is "Bangs" by David Choe; All accessories are MiniModernistas, Bozart Toys, DCWV, X10NY, Plan Toys, Voila Toys, Lundby and common hobby store finds.
