And It Begins

I got a few minutes to start decorating the Nomad Home this weekend. The almost complete living room is seen above. I expect that I'll alter this setting once I decide what I want to do in the adjacent dining room. My first version of this room was much more minimal with a limited wood and white palette. After I found the purple wingback chair (while looking for another chair...), I decided to add some color. I actually made the coffee table/ottoman out of corks and jute string. Yup, I sat watching episodes of Luther and weaving jute string around wine corks. I party hard like that on most nights.

I can't get over how beautiful this dollhouse is. It still has that new furniture perfume that I love. John Bui built the structure in such a smart way. I have access to the house from all sides thanks to removable panels, skylights and windows. I'm looking forward to creating many more scenes in this house.

The Goods: sectional sofa is PRD; wingback chair is Raine; ottoman is me; table is PRD; shelving unit is Pepper; sink is Miele; all accessories are MiniModernistas, Re-Ment, Playmobil, Home Depot, Mattel, X10NY, Crate & Barrel, PRD and common hobby store finds.

  2. As I said before, it looks like you are having some serious fun with this house. Love the big bells!

And I can party hard, too! Watching old movies and upholstering mini chairs. Is it possible to get a minis hangover?

Ha! Ha! Yes, we might need rehab for our partying ways. BTW, I am diggin' the upholstered wing back chairs you made. I'm gonna give it a try. I have a feeling they will not come out as good as what you made though.

  5. Gorgeous! The green, purples and natural wood - divine! I love the wood artwork. Is that a laminate floor sample? I have one of those around somewhere! :D

    1. Howdy Otterine!! I am glad you dig it. It is totally a laminate floor sample (ha ha!)--which you'll see several used throughout this structure as I work on each room. I have a feeling that your use of it will be much more creative than mine. I love your work!

  6. It looks great and as you say beautiful.

One small issue that needs to be fixed.
You have a "giveaway" that it is a miniature scene. In real life the giant bells would be so heavy that they would pull the rope they are hanging from to dead straight. At the moment you can see that there is little weight on them as they are curved.

It's okay with me that the miniature scene looks like a miniature scene.

I'm so non-crafty, but am a bit pleased with how my little ottoman project worked out in the end. Plus, I had Idris Elba keeping me company so...SMILES

  9. This scene is breathtaking! I want your skills- the use of the bells with the rough rope and wood, and the cork coffee table with its rough jute is inspired. And the slightly curved walls add both cutting edge modernism as well as coziness- how wonderful!

    1. Hey Neen
Aww thanks, man! I don't have any real skills to envy. I just push tiny furniture around. Ha! The bells are a placeholder. They may move or disappear when I put the dining set in there. I'm glad you dig it!

  10. WOW. This is really lovely and I want to see more!! Any chance you can show a pic of the whole structure now that a room is decorated? I am so curious about how you approached the open interior. And can you straighten those ropes, please? Honestly! ;)

    1. Hey Callsmall!
Thanks friend. Yes ma'am, I will post a pic of the whole structure. Hopefully this will happen next week. My goal is the dining room/kitchen this weekend.

And, yes, I am thoroughly ashamed of the curved ropes. What the hell was I thinking??!! :P

    1. Welcome Minis-B-Happenin!
Room by Room is an awesome blog. I love Petra's work. Thank you for such lovely compliments. I am not worthy. Your "Ode To Leckman" post features some paisley wall paper that I think I've used before. And I want to say that you had a wood candle holder(?) that I wanted to steal away from you. Yes, this is how I remember fellow modern miniature enthusiasts = by what I want to steal from them. Ha! I'm watching your blog...

    1. Yes, I do love this little gem. I'll try to post outside pics next week since we have a holiday (3-day) weekend over here in the States. I need some background scenes to enhance the exterior and prevent the distraction of 1:1 objects in the environment. Hmm...

    1. Thanks MD (you're a doctor now...I give out degrees in my spare time)
I'm going to do a post about the wood branch cut out. The modern "artwork" is a bunch of samples that I pocketed from Home Depot. Smiles. They are free but I always feel like a thief when I take them. shrugs--I don't know why. Will we spend the rest of our lives stealing miniatures from each other? I think so...

    2. LMAO. Busy more than usual, just catching up. Looking forward to branch cut out post.

Hmmm free samples! Speaking of, what is the name of that laminent sample? The last batch I got totally did not look like the website and are useless unless I paint them.

You're never going to let me over to your house without emptying my pockets before I go. :P
