All's Well That Ends Swell

I built this room two weeks ago. By "built" I mean that it had all the wall coverings, a new door and counter pieces. However, after that part of the process, I just stared at the empty room.  I knew it would end up as some type of retail but I wasn't sure what kind. I thought about posting the bare room and asking blog readers to choose between a restaurant, a beauty salon, cosmetics store, event planning company or other, but after reading Pepper's post with a similar dilemma, I decided to move forward on my own. I did a lot of staring at this miniature room this weekend, but I guess it turned out okay in the end.

Oh, and it's a coffee house...in case you are wondering. And there is more seating!
For this scene, I finally got an opportunity to use some salt and pepper shakers that I purchased for use as trash cans and outdoor planters. I think you can find these at any store.  Sidebar: I have yet to entertain in such a fashion where each of my guests need personal salt and pepper shakers. You?
And I'll throw in some pics of figures within the scene to give it proper scale.
The Goods: Counters are Selecta and Voila Toys; display hutch is DHE; tables are AG Minis and wood samples from My Realitty; Eames chairs are Reac Japan; light fixtures are diamond magnets; all accessories are Re-Ment, Mighty World, Playmobil, Mattel, and common hobby store finds.

  1. How nice of you to get my moniker inscribed on your condiment sets =0D

Do you ever go shopping without buying something that you can re-purpose? I need you as my personal shopper Lady.
    Love the scene

    1. Truthfully, I only purchased these shakers because they had your moniker on it. ;) ha!
I try to go shopping without buying something that I can re-purpose for 1:12...that counts, right? My favorite places to surf for re-purposed items are the off-price retail stores like TJ Maxx (TK Maxx for you, I believe).

    1. Thanks! HA HA! I had hoped someone would notice that. I go to the coffee shop about 5 days a week and there's always some dude on a laptop or tablet gazing over the the young women and career ladies.

    1. Much of their success is due to the low overhead = no water or electric bills. Plus the food and beverages stay fully stocked. Smiles.

    1. Thanks Kathi!
I got the cash registers from some Playmobil sets. Almost all of their retail store sets have these registers. I'll be watching for the grand finale of your coffee shop. ;)

  8. Well, or should I say Swell, since I am a major coffee drinker I can't help but love this scene!

If you get the chance, check out the 31 and Change style bench I made. You inspired me with your mention of it!

    1. Hi Sandra!
I'm glad you are diggin' the scene. Tell me where I can see your 31 and Change bench. I have piece laying around to make one but...I have trouble with crafts. I think that trouble is actually called "lazy". Ha!

  11. The figures look great!

I need to place some figures in a 1:12 interior to bring it to life for a demonstration we are doing.

Can recommend where I can get 3 or 4 that will site well in the scene and photograph well?

  12. Hi Peter,
Thanks! You can get these Dr. Who and Sarah Jane Adventures figures at www.Whona.com. All of the other figures are from the Primeval series and can be found on ebay. They are bout 5" tall and work well in most 1:12 scenes.
