Nomad...Vagabond...Call Me What You Will

I've always been a fan of the Nomad Home design seen above. It has that flexible open space and indoor/outdoor living vibe that I dig. Although this prefab house debuted years ago, I never forgot about it.

Like any modern miniature enthusiast, I often roam through the depths of the
"Interwebs" (That term cracks me up!) to find some useful gems for my mini scenes and collection. A few weeks ago, I stumbled upon this modern cat retreat on Etsy and my immediate thought was "Nomad Home".
A quick inquiry to the seller, John Bui, kicked open the door. Dare I say he might be another long-term convert to the miniature modern world? I think so, my friends. Behold his fantastic work in progress on a 1:12 model inspired by the Nomad Home:

Isn't she lovely? (And I bet you never thought Metallica and Stevie Wonder would be referenced in the same post...) The structure still needs the internal and external veneers, a few side windows, rear plexi "sliders" and a few other details but I'm in love with John's work and professional process thus far. I'm anxious to see the finished product and experiment with the space. It's amazing what and who you can find on Etsy...

  1. Ha, I thought I was the only one eying up odd structures as prospective miniature retreats. Have you seen the range of bespoke dog houses here? http://www.dogisagod.it/

    1. Hey Troy--I replied further down in this thread, but now that I've updated my comments (Thanks Mini Dork!), I wanted to let you know that the green material (per John Bui) is polyurethane modeling board, called RenShape.

  5. Hey Pepper! Okay, I love the Transparent Dog's House. I can see using these as homes for miniatures instead of canines. I'm also partial to some of the birdcages out there...

  6. Hi Troy!
I love it too in that makes me wanna dance and clap way. I'm not certain what the green material is...hmm...I'll have to ask John. Maybe it's material that assists in cutting out the windows?? I'll give you the 411 when I have it.

It is my undying quest to convert the world to the mini dark side, man!! Ha ha! I do love this little house too and am quite pleased. Also, I really like working with John--you can tell he is having fun with this project. I think this little baby will be completed in about 2 weeks.

  8. Oh no, Neomig!
I'm sorry that the Lekman box broke. Do they still carry them at Ikea? I hope you get a new one and a new dollhouse too!!

  9. Hello Oese,
It is a fantastic little abode. I'm trying to decide if I'll do a house scene or a restaurant in it when it arrives. Hmm...
BTW, you are truly wonderful, lady!

  10. Thanks Stephanie!
I'm hoping to get a few more "way cool" houses this year. Hopefully the stars will align...

  11. Finally, a 1:12 scale house to pique one's interest. And, let me say it again a 1:12 scale house... not 1:18!

I cannot wait to see it furnished on your blog.

    1. You are so right, Uyek! I love the designs of the 3/4 scale modern houses on the market but I have trouble using them because my collection lives in the 1:12 realm. I'm glad you are diggin' this little structure.

    1. I think I'm supposed to have a cat to live up to stereotypes--ha ha!--but I do not. I think you can vote once a day. OKAY--a Super Pac--ha ha ha!

    1. (Darth Vader breathing) "Everything is cooler than I describe". Ha! Actually, I'm not a supreme Sith Lord just yet so I guess you should call me Anakin. What a nerd I am! Chuckles. Anyway--Yes, John is awesome and he is very welcome to stay in this realm or hopefully visit us from time to time. He actually used to be our neighbor, man! How funny is that?

    2. Man, and the good ones always get away! Rats, that would have saved on shipping. :P
(I kinda made you Leia here: http://miniatures.about.com/b/2012/02/21/2012-best-miniature-blog-finalists-readers-choice-awards.htm)
Supreme Sith Lords don't exist in my world; only Episodes IV - VI. I can not forgive Lucas for Jar Jar Binks. How do you go from Wookies and Ewoks to that? I'll never understand.

    3. That's right, raise that nerd bar! Ha ha!
Truthfully, I'll never understand the "prequels"...

    4. Nener nener nener (I have no idea how to type that)! I bought this one,
      http://www.etsy.com/transaction/74413307
but definitely agreed we missed out on some sweet minis by Patie. She's got some nice stuff.

      1% is awesome! :P

I've been trying, but it looks like we are just outnumbered.

    5. Aww, that piece is awesome. Dang! I have to watch her each week now.

Ha ha--yes, I am the 1%. It cracks me up. This is actually pretty cool overall, man!
