Gracias...Not The Small Honduran Town

A really nice reader (psst...it was Call Small) of this blog sent me the above PRD coffee table as a gift. I actually got quite misty when the item arrived in the mail--which must come as a huge surprise to all of you since I know that I come off like a very streetwise, intimidating and tough-talking modern dollhouse enforcer. Believe it or not, there exists a much softer and gentler side. Anyway, I promised that I would share pictures when I used it in a scene and, well, a promise is a promise...okay, okay, a promise is a promise when it is convenient. Chuckles.

The Goods: The daybed sofa is Mini Modernistas; the white divider screen is Mini Modernistas; the two mid-century modern chairs are Kitty Puppenmobel; the coffee table is PRD; the rug is PRD; the kitchen is PRD; the dining table is Bodo Hennig; the Mezzadro stools are Reac; the art sculpture on the wall is Selecta; the art photography is Magnus Hastings (Yeah, I'm a fan); All the accessories are Playmobil, Re-Ment, Bodo Hennig, Mighty World, Plan Toys, and LiLu.

  2. De nada! So, do I have to send you another gift to get you posting again??! ;) I love the scene, especially the touches of red. The table looks great -- I am so glad you like it. Hope to see another post soon...!

  3. So great to be treated with another post and one of your lovely scenes again :-) Kudos to callsmall for making it happen and for the gift, I love the PRD coffetable!

I like all the red elements, especially the Selecta art on the wall. The Kitty chairs and Mini Modernistas' daybed sofa are all so great and look like they belong together!

  4. Hey, just a question. Do you know the background of dollhouse blogs? I know the shopping sherpa has been longrunning. Oese is prolific. I love McKendry's website history.I would love to know. If you can shed any light on this or redirect me to more info, I'd love to know. Thanks CM More2view@aol.com.

  6. HI CALLSMALL!!!!
Thanks again! Ha ha, I'm glad you like the scene that features your fabu gift, man! I would post more often, but I'm working on another project that puts miniature builds on the back burner. I still tinker and photograph and look at all the blogs but am really suppose to be finishing this "other thing". Sigh.

  7. Hey Pubdoll!
Thanks much. I do love the coffee table. And the Mini Modernistas items are really great quality. The Selecta art on the wall is actually the table leaf from the Ambiente dining set. I used it in the Tool Kitchen scene too as a wine rack. BTW, I've been enjoying your blog. Really dig the wallpaper in the Stockholm. I need to switch out my confetti walls too whenever I get time. They look oh so 1980.

  13. Hi, Mini Modern , Any Suggejestions for a modern dollhouse on a budget max. of $235 Thanks

  14. Hello Anonymous,
Depends on what scale you are looking for and a host of other criteria. What exactly are you looking for in terms of a dollhouse? Is it for you or a little person, etc., etc.?

I am responding with the thought that you plan to spend $235 on the structure---and aren't including the cost of furniture...
First thought--a PRD Pod. Next I think of: Lundby Stockholm, Lundby Gotland, Plan Toys Green, MiniHouse1, and a variety of modern dollhouse kits listed in the sidebar that you might happen upon via ebay.

Okay, if you mean the $235 is for everything, then I would suggest breaking out the tools and visiting the craft store. Also, you'd be surprised what everyday items actually make great miniature modern abodes = like CD racks, bathroom shelving, even some wall units and bookcases from Ikea.

Not a great answer for you but maybe it will help a little bit. I'm sure I am forgetting something. Anyone else out there with suggestions for our friend?

  15. For Anonymous there are a few modern dollhouses on the www.miniatures.com/hbs site for under $200; the Contemporary Ranch House, the Brookwood; also the 333 Franklin can be modernized with a few changes. HBS often has 50% off sales; I just bought the Contemporary Ranch House for under $100. In April they generally have an annual 50% off sale so you may want to get on their mailing list.

  23. This is off topic, but I am really confused as to why you aren't in the NYTimes article??? The article is so incomplete without a mention of you or your site. Everyone profiled---I learned about from you! Some even started blogging because of you. Who dropped the ball there?

    ReplyDelete
  24. Hi RocksAnne,
Wow. I have a crazy amount of emails and a few phone calls asking this question. The writer did contact and interview me but I declined to give away my privacy (name, company I work for, etc.)so they could not include me in the piece because they need credible source information. Note Jayson Blair... Stephen Glass...So I understand and am totally cool not being in the piece. Truthfully, I thought not being included would give me additional peace in my "cave"...but instead there seems to be a small uproar that keeps knocking on my door. Ha! Figures, right? The article is what it is and sheds some light on the modern version of the hobby, makes fellow modern dollhouse collectors look cool, gently promotes some of our favorite designers, and might by some very very very very slim chance influence manufacturers to produce more goods for us. I see it more as a "win". Dude, I'm a modern dollhouse collector and not a politician. Now...Group Hug!

  26. Hello Cathy B!
Aw shucks...you make me blush. Thank you, sweet lady! Let us all know what you create.

  27. Hey MC, thanks for the update on why you were not included, some of us figured that was the reason, but the blogosphere was full speculation and I'm sure readers feel better knowing you were interviewed. :) I can't believe you stopped blogging, yet you still continue to outscoop everyone. :D

  28. Oh and seriously, best headline award goes to:
