Minimii Designer Dollhouse #1: Arne Jacobsen

Thanks much to TheYoupiTouch for letting me know about this new Arne Jacobsen dollhouse that is set to hit the market in July 2009! Based on Jacobsen's actual villa in Charlottenlund, Denmark, this dollhouse produced by the Minimii company is reportedly a 1:16 structure that features magnetic walls for interior access and for hanging art and lights. Of course the company also produced miniature replicas of some of Jacobsen's popular furniture designs in a range of colors. If you missed out on having the old school and coveted Brio house that featured Jacobsen's designs, then this just might make up for it.

The Minimii company plans to have more designers create additional furniture and accessories for this house. (Remind you of another mod
ern dollhouse?) They also plan to produce more dollhouses based on actual homes and significant architectural designs. Hmm...I wonder what they'll create next.

The site indicates that the house will retail for $3200 dollars, which I'm guessing is an error and probably means Danish Krone and that would translate to roughly $550 U.S. bills. I have inquired about the cost and distribution.

Update 2/27/09: The Minimii company is in the process of looking for a U.S. distributor and will provide more information when it is available.

  1. Nice -- very sleek! What do you think about the 1:16 scale? Thanks for sharing!

  2. I'm not a big fan of 1:16. Maybe because most of my collection is 1:12 or works well in that larger scale. I think it might be hard to expand on any decorative pieces that you put in the house outside of the pieces produced by the company. So there might be limitations with decorating because of the smaller scale, but I'm very excited about and interested in what they are doing.I hope this company blossoms and releases more cool stuff.

  5. I'm glad you like it !
The price for the mini-Egg armchair is around 55 euros, so I guess the price of the house is not 3500 $ !

  6. Oh wow! I really want one! But the orice is kind of expensive. But still, that is one nice dollhouse. I love all the arne jacobsen furniture.

  7. It's a beautiful looking house and I like the idea of magnetic walls. But I admit I'm rolling my eyes at the scale and the price.
    1:16? That seems very limiting.

  8. It's really beautiful ... is it the MIAIM Clearview that this reminds you of? Suppose this may work for those who have some of those Lundby Stockholm 1:18 furniture? I definitely like the mini Arne Jacobsen furniture so far. Can't wait to see if they will introduce more furniture, even it they are not 1:12, it's still nice to just see and admire them online =)

    Thanks for sharing.

  9. Hey Vwong!

The company's plans to have more real life designers create furniture and decorations for this house and (hopefully) future structures reminds me of the Bozart Toys concept for the Kaleidoscope House. Maybe we'll get lucky and they'll introduce some 1:12 designs in the future.

  12. Claus here from Minimii. 1:16 has been chosen as 1:18 is too small to bring out more details in items for the house(s) and going to larger scale like 1:12 will be too big and heavy to play with. Actually the AJ House on our site is a prototype 1:14, and thats a bit too big allready. The idea is actually that girls should be able to play with this house....even with daddy as he likes modern and classic design. working on that US tranlation on our site. Claus

  13. Hm . . . the Minimii site now says that they will be making 1:12 versions of this house as well!

  14. I've heard that the 1:12 would cost around $1000 and you have to build it yourself. I'd love a 1:12 scaled Arne house, but I can't build houses :(
